Wavian 22L (5.8 Gal) Water Can — BPA-Free, Made in Australia

Water is the first thing you run out of and the last thing you want to be guessing about. This is the can I'd put next to the Wavian fuel cans in your garage, built by the same people, but for drinking water only. It holds 22 liters (5.8 US gallons), about four days for one adult at the gallon-a-day rule.

Straight talk: this one is plastic, on purpose

Our Wavian fuel cans are steel. This water can is not. It is a thick, food-grade, BPA-free plastic body made in Australia, UV stabilized so it doesn't go brittle in the sun, and opaque so light can't feed algae inside. That is the right material for water. A steel fuel can's lining reacts with water, and you never want fuel and water sharing a can anyway, so this one has WATER molded right into the side. Never put fuel in it.

How it works

The wide fill opening has a tethered screw cap, so you don't lose it in the dirt. The detachable tap threads into a 20mm (3/4 in) BSP port and swaps with a plug, hand-tight only, so it can run as a spigot at camp or seal up for storage. A breather vent on the top corner lets air in while you pour, so it runs steady instead of glugging. The textured surface keeps a grip when wet, and it shares the Wavian 20L fuel can footprint, so it fits the same Wavian can holders on a trailer or rig.

How I'd store and rotate it

Fill from a treated source or treat it yourself, write the date on the can, and keep it cool, out of sunlight, and off bare concrete. Dump, rinse, and refill every 6 to 12 months. They line up flat against a wall and take less floor than a shelf of jugs.
