Ferro Rod Fire Starter with Folding Scraper — 10mm Rod, Paracord Lanyard

What you get

• 10mm × 100mm ferrocerium rod (about 3/8" × 4"). Thick enough for a big spark and a long life.
• Folding scraper blade tied to the rod with a paracord lanyard, so the striker never gets separated from the rod.

How to use it

Scrape off the black coating on the first few strikes. After that, hold the scraper still against the rod just above your tinder and pull the rod back toward you, so you don't knock your tinder pile apart. Dry grass, cotton balls with petroleum jelly, or birch bark catch best.
